WHAT A DIFFERENCE A DAY MAKES David Duchovny announced yesterday that he will return to ”The X-Files” next season. This follows Tuesday’s statement from ”Files” creator Chris Carter that the show would go on with or without Duchovny. According to Daily Variety, Duchovny will get between $350,000 – $400,000 per episode for 11 shows. (A full season typically consists of 22 episodes.) VIDEO NEWS Blockbuster is keeping copies of DreamWorks‘ Oscar winning ”American Beauty” behind the counter, according to Variety, because the companies could not agree on ”revenue-sharing terms” which would have allowed the video chain to purchase hundreds of thousands of extra copies of the release and make it a ”guaranteed title.” As it stands, Blockbuster customers must specifically ask for ”Beauty” and then they are read a statement about the chain’s negotiations with DreamWorks. Isn’t this exactly the kind of thing that would have pissed Lester Burnham off?

Josh Hartnett will join pop star Aaliyah in Warner Brother’s ”Queen of the Damned.” He replaces Wes Bentley, who recently left the project.

REEL DEAL Director Tony Scott (”Top Gun”) is in talks to helm the Robert Redford/Brad Pitt thriller ”Spy Game.”

LEGAL The Eagles are suing a Dallas eatery named the Hotel California Grill…. Karen McNeil, 39, was arrested outside the Malibu home of Guns N’ Roses’ Axl Rose Tuesday. McNeil was booked for investigation of stalking, since Rose already had a restraining order against her. Maybe she just wants to know what’s up with the new album.
