Paper or plastic?

Paper or plastic?–With April 22 approaching, we ask celebs like George Clooney, Sara Gilbert, and Carrie Fisher how they carry their groceries

Posted on

With April 22 approaching, we bagged a bunch of celebs and asked the pressing question: Paper or plastic? (Who knew so many did their own grocery shopping?)

Alex Kingston (ER)
”We have a dog, so we take plastic and use them a second time for poop bags. I am down with double usage.”

George Clooney
”Do you want the truth or the politically correct version? The truth is that I go plastic — it’s so much easier. And I like to put the bags over my head at night when I sleep, which I think all the kids at home should try. Kidding!”

Eric Christian Olsen (Get Real)
”People should wear baggy jeans with big pockets to the store so they won’t need any bags.”

Mark McGrath (Sugar Ray)
”I try to use paper most of the time, but plastic has handles which make a bag a lot easier to carry. I feel guilty when they do the paper-inside-plastic thing. I guess I should go to [grocery chain] Trader Joe’s because they have paper bags with handles, but they don’t carry Ding Dongs. I can’t win.”

Jane Krakowski (Ally McBeal)
”The world’s greatest invention is the paper bag with handles, because it gives you the best of both.”

Carrie Fisher
”I like to combine — I love surf and turf.”

Jake Busey (Shasta McNasty)
”You either cut down trees or you use machines that put smoke in the air. That’s why I advocate carrying everything in your arms.”

Elise Neal (The Hughleys)
”I want both. It’s much easier to carry. I know I shouldn’t, but that’s what I ask for.”

Gary Sinise (The Green Mile)
”Paper — it burns and it doesn’t smell as bad.”

Sara Gilbert (High Fidelity)
”They both have their detriments. I say you bring your own bag [to the store].”

Jerry O’Connell (Mission to Mars
”I’m a paper and plastic guy — it’s good for the garbage. I don’t like to go out and buy garbage bags.”

Joan Cusack (High Fidelity)
”Plastic’s better for dirty diapers.”

Betty White
”I use a little bit of both, but I make sure to recycle or reuse it all. For Earth Day, I also suggest being nice to animals. They came before us.”
