Jerry Lewis bashes comediennes

Posted on

The King of Comedy has displeased the Queens of Comedy. On Feb. 12, at the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival in Aspen, Jerry Lewis was asked his opinion of women comedians. ”I don’t like any female comedians,” he said. ”A woman doing comedy doesn’t offend me, but…I think of her as a producing machine that brings babies in the world.” (A Lewis rep did not return calls.) EW talked to some unamused funny ladies.

MTV’S DARIA ”I think John Rocker just found himself a catcher.”

BETH LITTLEFORD, Comedy Central’s The Daily Show: ”The only time Jerry Lewis was funny was playing the a–hole straight man in The King of Comedy, and apparently he wasn’t acting.”

LIZZ WINSTEAD, cocreator, The Daily Show: ”The bitter train pulled up to Jerry’s stop years ago.”

SUZY ESSMAN, stand-up comic: ”I think he should move to France. Permanently.”

AMY POHLER, Comedy Central’s Upright Citizens Brigade: ”I’m very upset that Jerry’s not supportive of women comedians, since my inspiration growing up was always Cinderfella.”

MARGARET CHO, comic-actress: ”I am a baby-producing machine. But in France, I’m a baby-producing machine genius.”
