Bill Bradley, Values of the Game

Bill Bradley’s 1998 ode to the hardwood, Values of the Game, has just been republished in paperback. While he’s ostensibly writing about sports, it’s not hard to read between the foul lines when the ex-New Jersey senator espouses such principles as selflessness and responsibility. The former Knick’s prose occasionally descends into postgame clichés (”Courage in sports means… giving 100 percent for your team”), but ”Values” is an effective reminder to voters that despite his deadly dull image, Bradley was once a world-class jock.
