Georgia O'Keeffe

Posted on

It would probably be less of a hassle to go to a museum and check out the real thing than to haul these two mammoth volumes home from the bookstore, so if you live in a town where the prolific O’Keeffe is given wall space, you may want to spare your arm muscles the trauma of the National Gallery’s extremely thorough examination of the artist. The museum—with the cooperation of the O’Keeffe Foundation—has done a spectacular job of compiling her work, but O’Keeffe is one of those artists, like Monet and Van Gogh, who have been so reproduced to death that the power of the images often gets lost unless you’re confronted by the paintings themselves. On the other hand, perhaps this is the inspiration you’ll need to visit an O’Keeffe in person. B — Rebecca Ascher-Walsh
