We gave it a C+
Robinson can sing, in a big-voiced, soul-gospel style, but after a while, her enthusiasm grates. Not even L.A.’s finest sidemen (Jim Keltner, Ry Cooder, Waddy Wachtel) can salvage her solo debut. In fact, the musical setting is part of the problem: The album can’t decide if it’s blues-flavored roots rock or glossy pop. Skip it.
