Believe this: Not even 250-pound wrestlers could stop Cher, whose costume-filled HBO spectacle Live in Concert (3rd) was strong enough to put the hurt on the grapplers, finishing first among the traditional body-slamming demographic — 18- to 49-year-olds. The inimitable diva’s success also gave the cable net’s Emmy-nominated comedy Sex and the City a ratings boost, propelling it into the top 5, ahead of the penultimate episode of HBO’s other critically acclaimed series Oz (7th). MTV’s The Real World (11th) continued to compel viewers, as did Nickelodeon’s Rugrats, while the cable premiere of Howard Stern’s Private Parts (19th) — complete with updated commentary from the King of All Media — was ratings bliss for USA.
