Helen Hunt and Hank Azaria’s wedding and Christian Slater’s engagement made news the week of July 30th

EXPECTING Hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons, 41, and his wife, model Kimora Lee Simmons, 24, are expecting a baby in January. It will be the first child for both.

ENGAGED Actor Christian Slater, 29, announced he and former TV exec Ryan Haddon, 28, will wed on Valentine’s Day. The couple have a 3-month-old son, Jaden. It will be the first marriage for both.

WEDDINGS Oscar-winning actress Helen Hunt, 36, married her boyfriend of five years, actor Hank Azaria, 35, the weekend of July 16, at their L.A. home. (Spokespeople for the stars would not specify the exact date.) This is the first marriage for both.

LAWSUITS On July 19, actor Steven Seagal, 47, settled a breach-of-contract suit filed by Madison Avenue Films, a Manhattan-based production company. According to court papers, Madison Avenue Films had alleged that Seagal and members of his production team mismanaged and misspent money while coproducing an independent film titled Not Even the Trees. (The action star does not appear in the as-yet-unreleased movie.) No details of the settlement were released …

Rapper-producer Dr. Dre, 34, sued his former label, Death Row Records, and its distributor, Priority Records, July 16, in L.A., claiming that the recent Death Row album Suge Knight Represents: Chronic 2000 infringes on the trademark of his multiplatinum 1992 album The Chronic. Lawyers for Death Row and Priority did not return calls …

Producer Jon Peters (Wild Wild West), 54, was sued for sexual harassment and wrongful termination, July 14, in L.A. In court papers, Colleen Bennett, 42, a former exec at Peters Entertainment, contends that Peters’ misbehavior ranged from trying to destroy her engagement to presiding over meetings in his underwear. Her attorney says that Bennett will ask for ”tens of millions” in damages. Peters’ lawyer responds, ”We consider the lawsuit to be completely frivolous.”

DEATHS Irish actor Donal McCann, 56, of pancreatic cancer, July 17, in Dublin. His turns in plays by Samuel Beckett, Brian Friel, and Sean O’Casey won McCann a reputation as one of Ireland’s greatest actors. He also starred in John Huston’s final film, 1987’s The Dead, and in Bernardo Bertolucci’s Stealing Beauty (1996) …

Costume designer Patricia Zipprodt, 74, of cancer, July 17, in New York City. Zipprodt, who worked on the films The Graduate and 1776, won Tonys for Fiddler on the Roof, Cabaret, and Sweet Charity …

Theater innovator Stanley Durwood, 78, of esophageal cancer, July 14, in Kansas City, Mo. Durwood, the head of AMC Entertainment since 1960, changed moviegoing by building the first multiplex in a Kansas City shopping center in 1963. He also created the armrest cup holder …

Big-band vocalist Helen Forrest, 82, of congestive heart failure, July 11, in Woodland Hills, Calif. Gaining fame in the late 1930s, Forrest recorded over 500 songs with the likes of Artie Shaw, Lionel Hampton, and Benny Goodman.
