Coming Up $hort

This week on the music charts

Posted on

He may be Too $hort, but he’s got plenty of reason to live. Can’t Stay Away put another feather in the pimped-out rapper’s cap, selling 144,000 in its first week for a No. 5 bow. But Too $hort remained well short of a chart-topping debut. The Backstreet Boys easily reclaimed their No. 1 spot with 272,000 more sold, while Limp Bizkit had to limp back into second place this time with a still-remarkable 238,000. Meanwhile, Bizkit aren’t the only band beating the sophomore jinx: Smash Mouth’s Astro Lounge has outsoared most expectations and zoomed back into the top 10 on the strength of the self-prophetic single ”All Star.”
