We gave it a B-

Perez runs the emotional gamut from freaked-out to blissed-out and back as Grace, a type A TV producer trying to make room in her life for a new baby. Set behind the scenes of a daytime women’s talk show, The 24 Hour WOman finds ample opportunities to play up the seriocomic career-versus-motherhood conflicts. Then director Nancy Savoca (True Love) damn near blows it with a climactic Perez meltdown that goes way overboard and veers into Network-style satire. Even so, this sleeper’s worth renting just for the sequence that shows Grace struggling through a nightmare day, arriving too late for her daughter’s first birthday party, and learning she has missed the baby’s first steps. When she finally views the event on video, it’s an exquisitely understated heartbreaker. B-
