Ricky Martin to star on ‘ER’?
I heard a rumor on the radio that Ricky Martin is being courted to join the cast of NBC’s ”ER.” First of all, I don’t buy it. The story’s a little too neat. Martin used to star on ”General Hospital,” ”ER” needs a new hunk to replace George Clooney — network TV just doesn’t operate this efficiently. Besides, how loca of a vida can Little Ricky live if he’s spending 14-hour days on a drama series’ set?
Still, that apparently won’t stop Britney Spears from wading into the waters of ”Dawson’s Creek.” Although her role has not yet been determined, the teen diva will appear on the WB soap at some point next season. Maybe Spears will boost the show’s sagging ratings (”Creek” dropped 18 percent last season), but I doubt she’ll prove as felicitous an actress as her ”Mickey Mouse Club” costar Keri Russell.
This got me to thinking. What other TV shows could benefit by booking pop stars for appearances? Here are a few suggestions:
”Friends” Rebounding from her breakup with that hair-trigger NYPD cop (Michael Rapaport), flighty folksinger Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) falls head over heels for a badass white-boy rapper… Eminem!
”Buffy the Vampire Slayer” Having finally vanquished Sunnydale’s demonic mayor (Harry Groener), Sarah Michelle Gellar’s butt-kicking babe must fight an even more frightening monster… Marilyn Manson!
”The King of Queens” Parcel-service driver Doug Heffernan (Kevin James) is forced to relinquish his royal title when he makes a very special delivery to the real-life King of Queens… Sir Elton John!
”Touched by an Angel” Monica (Roma Downey) meets her greatest challenge when she attempts to redeem the soul of a sacrilegious tramp who has committed every sin known to man… Madonna!
”Charmed” Supernatural sibs Prue (Shannen Doherty), Piper (Holly Marie Combs), and Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) learn the secret to eternal life from an ancient witch who made a deal with the devil… Cher!
Let’s hear your ideas.
