Jazz violinist Regina Carter’s latest Rhythms of the Heart, eclectic without apology, is her most successful effort yet, veering from old-school swing in ”Lady Be Good” to Latin-jazz fervor on ”Mojito” and a West African groove on ”Mandingo Street.” Guest Cassandra Wilson puts a moody spin on ”Papa Was a Rolling Stone” and pianist Kenny Barron offers expressive sophistication on ”N.Y. Attitude.” Carter continues to explore on the job, not a bad idea for a young artist in the sparsely traveled field of jazz violin. B
