After seven years, The Red Hot Chili Peppers’ most famous lineup (John Frusciante, Anthony Kiedis, Chad Smith, and Flea) returned to the studio to record a new album, due this summer. But given today’s chilly rock clime, can these spicy boys regain their red-hot status? Ask anyone within earshot of Flea’s L.A. home: ”We converged on his garage this summer,” says an older and wiser Kiedis, now sporting shorter hair and a drug-free joie de vivre. ”It was 100 degrees, and we’d get sweaty and play so everybody in the canyon could hear us. His neighbors would call up, ‘We rocked out to your rehearsal today!”’
