Altar Ego

This week’s top videos

Posted on

Break out the wine coolers and crank up the Cyndi Lauper: Adam Sandler’s ’80s-style romantic comedy, The Wedding Singer, earned the SNL alumnus his warmest reception yet on video. Renting an average of 37 copies per store to earn second place, the tape easily outclassed the debuts of 1995’s zany Billy Madison and 1996’s zanier Happy Gilmore — a cult hit that’s hanging in at No. 27 in its 63rd week on the sales chart — as well as 1996’s un-zany action film Bulletproof. It seems the kinder, gentler Sandler is the one to take home to Mom.
