Elaine may no longer be thumb-dancing around the halls of J. Peterman, but the retailer’s love affair with Hollywood continues. In the new catalog, under the heading ”Only Slightly Perverse,” you’ll find a replica of Uma Thurman’s Emma Peel catsuit ($2,000) in sizes 4, 6, and 8 (10 and 12 made upon request — ordering one could be as humiliating a turn as Elaine’s hoofing).
While J. Peterman’s not the only place you’ll find Avengers-inspired products this month (Calvin Klein designed Emma eyewear for Sunglass Hut, and bebe is offering its own catsuit for $168), it may be the least likely. The tie-ins are the latest installment in the company’s ”Hollywood Legends” series. (Peterman’s Titanic trinkets sold out before the movie opened, and plans are now under way for clothing inspired by L.A. Confidential.)
Although selling catsuits next to caftans may seem out of context for the staid catalog, Peterman believes he’s definitely at one with The Avengers. ”It’s different, unique, sexy,” he says. ”It’s exactly what I strive for.”
