HARDY BOYS

Posted on

Just call ’em the Back Order Boys. Florida’s Backstreet Boys — who’ve long since conquered any number of bubblegum-friendly global territories — finally cracked the top 10 with their frothy, five-month-old debut. Some superstar artists who had benefited from Christmas giving took a tumble (Barbra Streisand fell right out of the top 10). The result: a boost for acts that teens are likely to buy for themselves (like Chumbawamba, Mase, Aqua, and the Boys). Garth suffered the severest drop-off, down to 156,000 units from the previous week’s 678,000. Celine’s decline wasn’t quite so steep, and 285,000 — down from 624,000 — was enough to put Let’s Talk on top for the first time.
