Patrick Swayze made movie news the week of August 29, 1997

Posted on

Production of Letters From a Killer shut down in May when star Patrick Swayze fell from a horse while shooting a scene and broke both legs. Keeping the film on hold will cost the insurance company an estimated $2 million, but Swayze has been making use of the downtime by rethinking his character, a convict with a talent for writing love notes. ”There’s always been something not quite right in the ending, and all of a sudden we realized that having this guy go through hell [would be] amplified by [giving him] injuries,” says Swayze. ”He’ll have a messed-up leg and shoulder, or he’ll have one injury.” The star, however, is healing nicely; shooting resumes on Sept. 3.
