Unlike the Austin Powers soundtrack, this two-disc set pays tribute to the pop tunesmith as a serious composer. Produced by radical saxophonist John Zorn and featuring some of avant-jazz’s biggest names, Great Jewish Music: Burt Bacharach veers from the relatively traditional (Sean Lennon and Cibo Matto’s Yuka Honda singing ”The Look of Love”) to the bizarre (”Alfie,” played entirely on a drum set). Challenging and full of surprises. A-
