We gave it a C

From Captain Horatio Hornblower to Moby Dick, Gregory Peck has always looked good on the deck of a sailing ship. Alas, although he plays a sort of Robin Hood of the high seas in The World in His Arms, he spends most of the film in dry dock, drearily romancing a runaway Russian countess (Ann Blyth). But whether on land or at sea, this backlot-bound costume adventure is pure Hollywood hokum, from the rear-projected ocean to the central-casting saloon girls to Blyth’s faux foreign accent. That such a creaky vehicle took so long to get to video shouldn’t shock anyone. The only real surprise is that the studio bothered at all. C
