After a year of direct-to-video fodder about killer Rumpelstiltskins and Pinocchios, a film about a homicidal cherub sounds positively inspired. Unfortunately, the antagonist here (Galligan) is nothing but half a pair of incestuous nutcase siblings (Mary Crosby plays the other), both of whom tend to bring very abrupt endings to romantic relationships that just aren’t working out. There may be a certain amount of subtext about modern love among the vapidly handsome cast and the mechanical courting maneuvers, but the slack pacing and performances can’t make Cupid anything more than a consolation prize for a dateless Valentine’s Day.
