In Kazaam, a vapid variation of the genie-in-a-bottle theme, O’Neal plays the 3,000-year-old Kazaam, who pops out of a magical boom box to grant three wishes to a surly brat (Capra) from a broken home. When not making candy bars rain down from the sky, Kazaam stomps on underworld thugs (far too forcefully for a family film) and struts his stuff in half-assed hip-hop production numbers. His dueling-rappers duet with the kid is the most excruciating musical interlude since Bruce Willis and Danny Aiello sang ”Swinging on a Star” in Hudson Hawk. Rental tip: Forget this embarrassing picture and stick with Shaq’s NBA highlights tape. At least there he’s doing something truly magical. D
