We gave it a B+

On their third album Hell On Earth, this young rap duo creates a haunting portrait of New York-style thug life. Into a thumping mix where gunshots clash with eerie strings, Mobb Deep drop urban folk tales of violence and retribution over the crackle of scratchy vinyl. The lyrics are marred by ugly homophobia, but these powerful slices of life pulse with the surprising moral ”Crime pays, but for how long?” B+
