Aficionados of ’60s rock will welcome this soundtrack to the Stones’ near-mythical, never-broadcast 1968 TV special The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus. Featuring six vintage tunes from Mick and the boys, it includes a handful of good-to-great performances from the Who, Taj Mahal, Marianne Faithfull, the pre-prog Jethro Tull, and ”the Dirty Mac” (a supergroup consisting of John Lennon, Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, and Mitch Mitchell). The just-clowning-around vibe gives the proceedings an unpretentious feel that nicely evokes the era’s spirit. Upped a notch for historical resonance. A-
