The Kids’ first feature dragged at the box office and left critics cold, but that doesn’t mean it’s a must-to-avoid on video. Kids in the Hall: Brain Candy is essentially a bunch of Kids in the Hall skits connected by a lame plot (about a scientist whose miraculous antidepressant has a serious side effect), and its uneven charms are more at home on the small screen. Despite an occasionally flabby exposition, some inspired spurts of laugh-out-loud silliness — a trash-talk-show parody and an awards ceremony where a European supermodel (Scott Thompson) turns the words folk act into something obscene — make this confection worth a rental.
