We gave it a D
My, my, aren’t we postmodern? The pig farmer’s ideal of selling everything but the squeal has been trumped in this compilation of MTV promo spots. A gallery of detritus — those colorful and ingenious animated logos, ads, shorts, and other ephemera MTV whips up as programming grout — here becomes a no-cal milkshake of videographic design and irony. The hit parade includes Denis Leary’s diatribes, prattle from Jimmy the unhinged taxi driver, and Joe’s roach-filled apartment. While the pieces themselves deserve an A, the absurd collection in I Want My MTV rates a D.
