We gave it a B

The disparity between Oswald’s character (neurotic twerp) and his consequence (changing the course of American history) gives Norman Mailer a worse case of vertigo than the most convoluted conspiracy scenario. He manages to produce a book that’s full of interest, though Oswald’s Tale: An American Mystery is based on the flawed premise that Oswald was a deeper, more imposing figure than he has ever seemed to be.
