We gave it a B-

Action director Walter Hill’s megaflop was always a cockamamy idea, a retro-futurist biker rock musical — imagine Blade Runner meets Grease. So it’s no surprise that the years have not been kind to it; in fact, in this new wide-screen version Streets of Fire comes off as a ludicrous 1980s period piece. Still, the large ensemble cast is game (Lee Ving, of the punk rock band Fear, contributes a memorable bad-guy turn), and while most of the big songs sound like Meat Loaf rejects (his songwriter, Jim Steinman, wrote two of them), the MTV hit ”I Can Dream About You” (one of the best fake soul ballads ever) is at least shot with real pizzazz. B-
