The original script for Twister, by Michael Crichton and his wife Anne-Marie Martin, now in paperback, proves different from the film, with less grief for Helen Hunt’s Jo (her parents are alive) and more grit for Jamie Gertz’s Melissa (to make Jo jealous, ”Melissa…enters languorously, yawns, stretches, pretending she got laid.”). It also gives Jo’s storm chasers more fun, as when Larry rents a new pickup.

Rental Agent: And will you be taking our added collision and damage coverage?

Larry: Yes.

Agent: Is that the two-hundred-fifty-dollar deductible or do you want —

Larry: I want all the coverage. All the coverage. Everything you got.
