This all-star hip-hop documentary, which had a brief theatrical release, is 90 minutes of one note: From the old school to the new, the West Coast to the East, everybody wants it known that their ”s— is real.” Well, John Denver probably feels his s— is real, too, but who cares? With all that boasting, the performance clips are too sparse to convey any of the energy of a rap concert. Sometimes the egotism in The Show reveals more than the artist intended: When Naughty by Nature‘s Treach claims that if he weren’t making records, he’d probably be robbing you, you don’t buy it, since he comes off as so decent. Much of the rest of this crew — such as skilled record maker Notorious B.I.G. — appears more dopey than dope. C
