Russian tanks are invading from the east. German paratroopers are landing in the north. The Svetopian Empire is tottering on the brink of defeat. Happily, however, Sid Meiers’ Civilization 2 has a nifty cheat switch that lets you smite thine enemies and rush reinforcements to the front. Like the original Civ, this enhanced version lets aspiring despots rule a kingdom of their own, starting in 4000 b.c. and working up to the modern era. Along the way you build new cities (in my case, Benburg and Benadelphia) and battle such historical figures as Catherine the Great and Mao Zedong. The cheat switch isn’t the only cool new feature; Civ 2 offers graphics, live-action film clips, and an arsenal of advanced weapons. Today Benburg, tomorrow the world. A
