Everyone in Winkelburg owns a suit of clothes — everyone, that is, except little Max Nix, who imagines that if he had ”a suit for doing Everything,” cats and dogs would follow him ”purring and grrring with admiration.” By the end of The It-Doesn’t-Matter Suit, this second, posthumously published children’s book by the poet and novelist Sylvia Plath, there’s purring and grrring galore. Discovered recently among the writer’s papers, this mildly charming little tale has been whimsically illustrated by Rotraut Susanne Berner. Thankfully, Plath’s celebrated dark side does not emerge, but neither does much of her poetic gift. B
