We gave it an A-

The Hidden is hands down the best movie ever made about a homicidal alien slug that oozes from human host to human host. It’s also one of the genuine sleepers of the ’80s — a suspenseful sci-fi action flick that’s also blackly hilarious (the creature digs fast cars and heavy metal), with reserves of emotion unusual for the genre. This crisp new letterboxed transfer has intriguing bonuses (a behind-the-scenes look at special effects, a running audio commentary by director Jack Sholder, among others), but the neatest surprise is rediscovering MacLachlan’s FBI Guy From Outer Space — a warm-up for his turn on TV’s Twin Peaks, yet here, in a weird way, he’s a lot more human.
