Video Review: 'The Birds II: Land's End'

Hitchcock would molt in his grave if he could see this ersatz TV-movie sequel, which blew in 31 years after the original. Again, our fine feathered friends are flocking to a seaside town to peck out people’s eyes. They couldn’t have picked a more boring community. Tippi Hedren (star of the original) is among the local-yokel stereotypes who get put through very slow paces by director Alan Smithee. You remember Alan Smithee: That’s the name directors use when they’re too embarrassed to use their own (in this case, Rick Rosenthal). This isn’t Smithee’s worst film — but it’s his first rip-off of a classic. C-
