We gave it a B+
Neo-honky-tonker Kenny Chesney dutifully cites George Jones and Merle Haggard as major influences, but he really takes his cues from the younger generation, appropriating the in-your- face twang of Aaron Tippin and Keith Whitley. Although not very original, Chesney knows how to get the most out of his material and have a good time. The surprise is how good he is. Mixing guitar energy and s — -kicker values, on In My Wildest Dreams he lets loose with a hillbilly howl that could curdle the moon.
