''Days of Our Lives'' plots border on misogyny

With continued focus on serial rapists, sexually abused women and porn stars, the soap opera has ignored criticism its victimized characters

To: NBC; Re: Violence against women. Remember when we daytime critics chastised you about all the rape and abuse plots on Days of Our Lives? And you promised to tone it down? Well, so much for promises. Now there’s the threat of a serial rapist and all the women have been told to watch out. Also, Jamie is being sexually abused by her father, and Laura had to be institutionalized because she caught her husband having an affair. On top of that, Lisa Rinna, one of daytime’s most appealing actresses, is stuck playing a former porn star and heroin addict who was raped by her father. Enough of this misogyny! NBC is a distant third in daytime; maybe you’d fare better if the soap women weren’t so victimized. I’m not watching DOOL again until you stop the inanity.
