RORY’S LITTLE HOLLYWOOD;CHEEP THRILLS: THE SILLIEST SONGS OF SESAME STREET;THIS LAND IS OUR LAND: THE YOGI BEAR ENVIRONMENTAL ALBUM;ALL OF THE SEASONS;THE WOOLEYCAT’S FAVORITE FAIRY TALES;I GOT SHOES

This month’s selections feature fairy tales set to music, Broadway tunes brought down to size, and cartoon characters that sing to save the earth. AGES 1 to 3 RORY’S LITTLE HOLLYWOOD Rory (Sony Wonder, $9.98 cassette, $13.98 CD) This pixie-voiced singer found a trusty formula with Rory’s Little Broadway, her 1992 collection of show tunes, and she sticks with it here, scaling down songs from screen classics like The Wizard of Oz and Singin’ in the Rain. They’re mostly good choices, nicely executed and totally tot-accessible. B -Anne Reeks

CHEEP THRILLS: THE SILLIEST SONGS OF SESAME STREET (Golden, $8.99 cassette) A mixture of some of the Street’s goofiest oldies (”Captain Vegetable”) plus a solid batch of new silliness, the best of which is Kermit’s newly released shaggy-frog tune, ”Mary Had a Bicycle.” As usual, clever, well-crafted fun. B+ -Ken Tucker

AGES 3 to 6 THIS LAND IS OUR LAND: THE YOGI BEAR ENVIRONMENTAL ALBUM (Kid Rhino, $9.98 cassette) What a downer-not because these dire ditties warn against pollution, but because the wise-guy voices of Hanna-Barbera characters like Yogi, Boo Boo, and Huckleberry Hound render all the messages utterly insincere. ALL OF THE SEASONS Ken Whiteley (Alacazam!, $9.98 cassette, $11.98 CD) Calling this a debut album suggests Whiteley is yet another newcomer. Not so. His ample musical talents will sound familiar to kids from a string of Raffi records on which he sang. Here Whiteley proves he deserves center stage with smart, simple, original songs in a variety of styles. A -AR

THE WOOLEYCAT’S FAVORITE FAIRY TALES Dennis Hysom (Discovery, $9.99 cassette) Hysom drains the life out of a slew of fairy tales by turning the narratives of stories such as ”Rumpelstiltskin” and ”Cinderella” into harmlessly perky songs, free of any suspense or danger. The witch in Hysom’s ”Hansel and Gretel” doesn’t even try to trap the kids-she just invites them to her house to eat candy. D -KT

AGES 6 to 9 I GOT SHOES Sweet Honey in the Rock (Music for Little People, $9.98 cassette, $12.98 CD) Who needs instruments? Not a cappella singers Sweet Honey in the Rock, whose second children’s album of rhythmic African songs and heartfelt American spirituals bursts with vocal energy. Cultural enrichment doesn’t come any more magnetic. A- -AR
