FIRE IN THE SKY D.B. Sweeney, Robert Patrick (1993, Paramount, PG-13, $95.95) Based on the true story of a logger (Sweeney) allegedly whisked away from Arizona for five days in 1975 by aliens, Fire is an intriguing blend of mystery, science fiction, and small-town character study. The casting emphasizes believability and quirkiness rather than star power, and the film gains from it. While the imagery often seems cramped on the video screen, this is still a solid and imaginative piece of work, especially in the horrific scenes in which the logger remembers his abduction. Whether you eventually buy all of this or not, the movie is compulsively watchable. B+ – LO’T
