It’s one of the movies’ great mysteries: You can take a proven creative team (writer, director, and producers of Driving Miss Daisy), a nifty cast (including Finney, McLachlan, Jill Clayburgh, Alfre Woodard, Ethan Hawke, and Piper Laurie) — and the bread can still come out stale. Rich in Love isn’t as poor on tape as it seemed in theaters: Detailing the struggles of a mildly eccentric Southern clan after Mom (Clayburgh) lights out, it plays like a video letter from a pleasant, if tiresome, wing of the family.
