They’re back! Three new-to-video Universal horror flicks are primo examples of the they-don’t-make-’em-like-that-anymore drive-in fodder parodied so affectionately in Joe Dante’s recent ”Matinee.” The Mole People features kitsch hilarity galore as explorers encounter Sumerian albinos and bad rubber mole suits. The Deadly Mantis is likable giant-insect-on-the-loose stuff patterned rather blatantly after the better-known (and just plain better) ”Them!” And best-of-the-bunch Tarantula yet another giant-insect opus, boasts surprisingly slick special effects and assured direction by one of the genre’s genuine auteurs, Jack Arnold (of ”The Incredible Shrinking Man” fame). Good period fun all around, blessedly uncolorized. ”The Mole People” and ”The Deadly Mantis”: C+; ”Tarantula”: B
