DON'T LOSE HOOP

Basketball has been bery, bery good to NBC. The peacock network snagged three top slots in the Nielsens last week with its broadcast of the NBA finals between the Chicago Bulls and the Phoenix Suns. But the network’s biggest slam dunk was Katie Couric’s Thursday-night interview with First Squeeze Hillary Rodham Clinton, which did so well (25th place) that NBC (and the White House) might want to make it a weekly series. The bad news for NBC: Its remake of the series Route 66 stalled at 40th place, while the first regular episode of the bikini-packed South Beach doggy-paddled into 50th. At the other networks, CBS’ new barbershop sitcom, Cutters, ranked a hairy 72nd; ABC’s Monday-night movie, See No Evil, Hear No Evil, was 22nd; and Fox’s best showing for the week was a Simpsons rerun, which came in 28th.
