TEN DAYS’ WONDER Anthony Perkins, Orson Welles (1972, Connoisseur, unrated, $59.95) Based on a novel by Ellery Queen, this mystery from director Claude Chabrol is typical Hitchcock a la francaise: choppy, talky, and humorless. In his fourth film with Welles, Perkins plays the Big Man’s neurotic adopted son, who is illicitly involved with his stepmother (the ridiculously unsexy Marlene Jobert). There’s blackmail, murder, suicide, and lots of dubbed angst, but the cardboard Eurocharacters are so remote, who cares? It’s plein de chatter, but not suspense. D+ -Charles Winecoff
