We gave it an A-
A neogothic novelist with a deliciously morbid sensibility, Patrick McGrath often writes about diseased minds. His latest specimen, Dr. Haggard, is a physician and morphine addict who suspects the spirit of his dead lover has entered the body of her son. Haggard does a slow dive into dreamy-eyed delusion. The buildup to his climactic fantasy is maddeningly protracted, but Dr. Haggard’s Disease keeps you riveted to the end.
