Life in Hollywood, 1936-1952

Posted on

Peter Stackpole was one of Life magazine’s star shutterbugs during Hollywood’s golden age, and if you thumb through the 350-plus snaps collected in Life in Hollywood, 1936-1952, it’s easy to see why. While his photographic style looks a tad cornball by today’s aesthetically stark standards, he did have a knack for catching celebrities in seemingly unguarded situations (Gary Cooper tying his shoes, Van Johnson reading in bed). Fans of the American Movie Classics channel will love it. B
