Selling with song

Picture a bunch of advertising executives sitting around a large conference table. The objective? To sell a laxative and make the pitch, er, palatable. The solution? A smooth-moving rendition of James Brown’s ”I Got You (I Feel Good).” You may laugh, but this commercial for Senokot is now playing on a TV set near you. We hope it’s just the start of a Madison Avenue hit parade that includes tunes like these:

POLIDENT: You’ve Really Got a Hold on Me, the Miracles
SAMSONITE LUGGAGE: Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag, James Brown
HOOVER VACUUM CLEANERS: Another One Bites the Dust, Queen
SONY DREAM MACHINE CLOCK RADIO: Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go, Wham!
CHAP STICK: Our Lips Are Sealed, the Go-Gos
EX-LAX: Bust a Move, Young MC
GRECIAN FORMULA: Touch of Grey, the Grateful Dead
CERTS BREATH MINTS: Every Breath You Take, the Police
MAXWELL HOUSE COFFEE: Start Me Up, the Rolling Stones
FIRST ALERT BURGLAR ALARM SYSTEMS: U Can’t Touch This, Hammer
CREST TOOTHPASTE: Can’t Smile Without You, Barry Manilow
NYQUIL: Whatever Gets You Thru the Night, John Lennon
TROJAN CONDOMS: Let’s Get It On, Marvin Gaye
