Remember Libra, the other film about President Kennedy’s assassination that Oliver Stone reportedly derailed when he began directing JFK?
Well, the Libra script, based on Don DeLillo’s dark 1988 novel about Lee Harvey Oswald, is now finished, and John Malkovich is set to direct for A&M Films, but the company’s president, Dale Pollock, says the project is on hold. ”If you saw what happened to Ruby (the recent Danny Aiello box office fizzler),” says Pollock, ”it’s clear there’s not enough room for another movie.”
Even DeLillo has lost enthusiasm. ”Maybe we’ve had enough of this,” he says. ”It’s not going to shed any light on what happened. At the most I would hope for a small, interesting movie about the life of Lee Oswald.”
