Don’t be fooled by this title: Till There Was You might sound like some kind of tepid love story, but actually it’s an exotic mystery thriller — or at least it was meant to be. Set in a corrupted South Pacific paradise, the movie stars Mark Harmon as an ordinary guy trying to get to the bottom of his brother’s murder. It doesn’t take much digging. The surpriseless plot eventually involves the brother’s real estate partner (Jeroen Krabbé), the partner’s restless wife (Deborah Unger), a tribe of noble savages, and a sunken treasure. Yet simplistic as it is, the story never makes much sense. Indeed, in the hands of rookie director John Seale, it is often incoherent. D-
