A year earlier of Weekend, Godard had shot his astringent boy-meets-girl lyric with the intense Jean-Pierre Léaud and the dippy Chantal Goya, Masculin-Féminin. The film’s casual, brazen tone was once novel (it had attitude way back then), as were the jump cuts and the fractured narrative. But the film doesn’t date well, though as a time capsule it remains fascinating. B+
