We gave it a D+

The original Omen, a 1976 feature film starring Gregory Peck and Lee Remick, was probably as convincing a movie as we’re ever going to see about parents who discover their son is the Antichrist. The Omen IV, however, have sunk lower in quality each time, and this TV movie is just plain ridiculous.

Michael Woods (War and Remembrance) and Faye Grant (Internal Affairs) star as parents who discover that their daughter is you-know-who. Their 8-year-old girl is played by Asia Vieira, who seems to take great delight in biting the head off her Barbie doll and causing a wet spot to appear on the pants of a boy she doesn’t like. Yes, that’s the kind of evil the Antichrist commits in Omen IV — mischievous, prankish, prime-time-acceptable evil that gets boring real fast.

The most interesting detail about Omen IV is that its real heroes — the people who try to help the parents to control their daughter — are a gaggle of New Age psychics who wear ”healing crystals” around their necks and say things like ”Oh, there’s nothing strange about metaphysics and New Thought; it’s very positive.” Can a Fox series — something like, say, Misty Cosmos, New Age Detective — be far behind?
